Course Rationale:
Drama is a discipline that originates in the impulse to depict experiences, communicate an understanding of these experiences, & give them form/meaning. It has evolved over time to include a variety of forms and techniques. Tech Stagecraft supports this process by using production technologies and design principles to set mood, create spectacle and enhance the telling of these stories.
Program Units:
· Building the Company – Tech Ensemble (1 week)
· Tech Leadership Roles - Casting Interviews (1 week)
· Grade 8/9 Club members welcomed and orientated by leaders (2 weeks)
· Stand Alone Lessons and Prep for Supported FA Events (On Going)
· Design & Production Prep - 1 Acts & Theatre Company Play (On Going)
· IE Fest and Thespian Tech Olympics Prep for Competitions (On Going)
Assessment and Evaluation:
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways: one on one interviews, self/peer evaluations, & teacher observations of work. All assessment is based on criteria clearly stated to the student at the beginning of each lesson and unit/project.
Hands On Active Learning (100%)
We will follow the “Know, Do, Understand” model and use the creative process.
Focus Areas Include: Safety, Tech Theatre Challenge Olympics, & Play Specific Projects/Needs. Mentorship and student tech leaders training the next generation of student tech leaders will be key concepts to apply. Students in this program will support all of the events of the NSS Performing Arts Department with emphasis on the Theatre Company Production, One Act Plays and Tech Theatre Competitions.
