This course provides an overview of the work done by all 8 technical departments needed in the process of staging a theatre production. Students in this course will be forming part of the production team and will focus their attention mainly towards specific hands-on projects from at least 4 of the following technical departments: lighting, sound, digital media/projection, video, scenery/sets & painting, costumes, hair & make-up, and props. In addition, students will learn about script analysis, stage management and technical direction. The work accomplished in this class will be in direct support of the realization of a North Surrey theatre department production. This course will run during the regular school day.
Course Rationale:
Drama is a discipline that originates in the impulse to depict experiences, communicate an understanding of these experiences, & give them form/meaning. It has evolved over time to include a variety of forms and techniques. Tech Stagecraft supports this process by using production technologies and design principles to set mood, create spectacle and enhance the telling of these stories.
